If you’ve chatted to a few NPCs in The Forge, chances are you’ve taken on quite a few side quests. However, the Lost Cat quest that’s given to you by an NPC named Tomo takes the cake for being the most confusing one the game has to offer.
To complete this tricky task, you’ll have to venture to a new world, complete an entirely different prerequisite quest, and find a hidden area – all without any hints from the game. Luckily, whether you’re in it to get the rewards (including that sweet title), complete everything the game has to offer, or just make sure poor Tomo’s cat finds their way home, you’re in the right place.
Here’s everything you’ll need to know about the Lost Cat quest, including how to start it, how to complete that pesky prerequisite quest, where to find Tomo’s cat, and what you’ll get as a reward.
How to start the Lost Cat quest
Before you can find Tomo’s lost cat, you’ll have to talk to Tomo. Thankfully, he’s not nearly as hard to find as his cat. You can find him hanging out in Stonewake’s Cross. Just head up the hill to the left of the Cave (and to the left of Greedy Cey), and you’ll find Tomo hanging out on some rocks and kicking his feet a little too gleefully for someone who’s missing a cat. Talk to Tomo, select his “Give me the quest” option, and you’ll then be prompted to find the cat.
How to find Tomo’s cat
Now that you’ve accepted the quest, Tomo doesn’t give you much guidance. We’ve got your back, though. You’ll first need to head to the Forgotten Kingdom (the main area you progress to after Stonewake’s Cross – if you haven’t reached it yet, you might need to grind a little). There, head down the road, make a left at the Forge, and you’ll run into two orcs – walk through the entrance they’re blocking.
You can now talk to the Goblin King, but this is where things get a bit complicated. Unfortunately, Tomo’s cat is in an area that you can only access if you’ve completed an entirely different quest. (If you’ve already completed the Goblin King quest, lucky you! You can skip over this next part.)
How to complete the Goblin King Quest
Talk to the Goblin King, and he’ll prompt you to complete a very tedious goal. First, he’ll ask you for $5,000, which might not seem too daunting if you’re an experienced forger, but after that, his requests will grow far more demanding. Ultimately, you’ll need to bring him:
- $5,000
- $10,000, 3 Topaz
- $15,000, 5 Diamonds
- $20,000, 5 Emeralds
- $25,000, 5 Rubies
You can find the first three ores in Basalt Core rocks, while Rubies are hidden in Basalt Vein rocks (which you’ll need at least a Mythril Pickaxe to mine). If you’re struggling to find the right ores, we’d recommend stocking up on Luck Potions. The odds of getting some of these gems are pretty low, so any boost to your luck stat will help. As for the cash, you’ll likely need to grind a little. Good luck!
Upon finishing the last of his requests, head back to meet the Goblin King and hand over your hard-earned wealth. He’ll give you quite a bit of XP, but most importantly, you can now find a key on his throne that’ll unlock the door to his right. Unlock it and head inside. All that hard work wasn’t for nothing – welcome to the Goblin Cave!
Tomo’s cat location
You’re getting pretty close to finding Tomo’s cat. I promise! All you’ll have to do is follow the path through the Goblin Cave until you run into a clearing with a waterfall.
Head behind the waterfall (of course), and keep walking into the middle rock. You’ll be able to walk right through it (just like the wall that hides the Bard’s guitar), and inside, you’ll find poor little Tomo’s cat, who you can pick up to bring back to Tomo.
Lost Cat rewards
Congrats! You’ve officially rescued Tomo’s cat. If you had to do the Goblin King’s quest too, you worked even harder to rescue that poor kitty. Look at you go! Just don’t forget to talk to Tomo and return his cat to reap those sweet rewards. You’ll get the usual mountain of XP for completing the quest, but, more importantly, you’ll nab the “Cat Lover” title, which is a pretty charming way to show off your soft side in a game that’s otherwise packed with zombies, cool weapons, and greedy, greedy goblins. Seriously, what is up with that guy!?
