How to get to the Shivering Isles in Oblivion Remastered
There’s no doubt about it, The Shivering Isles is one of the greatest DLC expansions of all time, and now you can experience it all over again, or for the first time, with updated graphics and mechanics in Oblivion Remastered.
The Shivering Isles is another game-sized dose of Elder Scrolls action, with a massive new continent to explore that feels meaningfully different to Cyrodiil and an otherworldly story that expands on a fan-favorite character, Sheogorath, the daedric lord of madness and mania.
Technically, the Shivering Isles themselves are another plane of Oblivion, but they couldn’t be more different to the fire and brimstone vision of hell lorded over by the Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon, in the base game’s main quest.
However, to experience their wonder for yourself, here’s where you need to go.
How to enter the Shivering Isles in Oblivion
To go to the Shivering Isles you need to enter the Strange Door in the Niben Bay to the south of the Imperial City and east of Bravil.
Below we’ve embedded an interactive map showing the location of the Strange Door:
When should you enter the Shivering Isles in Oblivion Remastered?
In the original Oblivion, after you’d installed the Shivering Isles DLC, you’d immediately get a quest directing you to the Strange Door. However, in Oblivion Remastered, probably to avoid instantly sidetracking new players with a whole new realm of existence to explore, you’re left to rumors and your own devices to track down the Shivering Isles.
But, like in the base game, enemies in the Shivering Isles are scaled to the player’s level. This means you can jump in and explore Madness and Mania whenever you like throughout your adventure. But, with that said, it makes the most sense to complete the Shivering Isles campaign after you’re done with the main story in Cyrodiil.
While you could argue the more self-contained stakes of the Shivering Isles’ storyline are lower than that of the base game’s main quest, I think its conclusion sits better after the Oblivion Crisis than before.
The Shivering Isles isn’t the only place you can interact with the Princes of Oblivion though. For more Daedra quests, check out our map of every Daedric Artifact location in Oblivion Remastered.
