While you can obviously do exactly as instructed and “dig to escape” your prison cell, there’s a little bit more involved than you might first realise, as you trade with other inmates to gain the necessary resources to get free while avoiding the evil guard.
But if that’s not exciting enough for you, there are also other secret endings which you can see by collecting special items to unlock secret areas around the prison. Here’s how to escape the prison in Dig to Escape and unlock all of the endings.

How to get the Main Ending in Dig to Escape
On the face of it, getting the main ending in Dig to Escape is easy. All you have to do is dig all the way through the tunnel in the floor of your cell to reach the mineshaft below and make a run for it.
However, reaching that point is a little bit trickier than that. To make your escape, you can follow the following process:
- Dig in the morning as far as you can to collect items
- At lunch time, go to the chef and get some food to replenish your energy
- On the way back, sell your items to the inmate, then eat your food and dig some more
- When it turns to night, close the door to your cell and wait until morning
- Alternatively, use the vent next to your cell to sell your items again
- In the morning, check what items your fellow inmates have and buy any cheap food
- Dig some more, then when you hit the grey dirt buy a spatula from one of the inmates
- Continue the cycle of selling, eating and digging until you hit the darker dirt
- When you reach the next layer, buy a trowel from one of the inmates
- Finally, keep digging until you reach the golden section at the bottom of the tunnel
- Make a run for it from the prison guard, avoiding the obstacles until you reach the ladder and freedom!
The best tip for reaching the end is not to rush. Within an hour or so you can easily reach the bottom just with free food. Try to save your toilet roll to trade for digging upgrades when you need them.
While it’s tempting to roam at night, it’s best just to wait it out until morning. Remember to keep your cell door closed when you’re digging, because if the guard catches you with it open you’re toast!
How to get the Janitor Ending in Dig to Escape
To get the Janitor Ending in Dig to Escape, you need to follow a similar process to the main ending, however, with the key difference that you need to save up 200 Toilet Roll to trade for the Illegal Keycard from one of the other inmates.
Then, with the Keycard, sneak over to the security office in the hallway next to the cafeteria and toilets. Inside you should see a ladder.
Take the stepladder and position it under the vent in the Janitor’s closet to give yourself a means of escape into the vents.
You will then drop into a dark office where you need to collect batteries and place them in the fusebox while avoiding the patrolling guard to open the outside door and make a run for it!
How to get the Rooftop Ending in Dig to Escape
Finally for now, to unlock the Rooftop Ending you also need to save up 200 Toilet Rolls for the Illegal Keycard, but instead of the security office you need to open up the door to the kitchen next to the chef in the cafeteria.
Inside, open the freezer, then buy the crowbar from the frozen chef for another 100 Toilet Rolls.
With the crowbar in hand, wrench off the boards covering the vent at the top of the crates at the back of the freezer, then crawl through the ventilation shaft.
This will lead out to the roof, where you need to run away from the guard just as you would in the mineshaft down below to escape.
