How to unlock Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign

0

Nightreign comes with six Nightfarer’s already unlocked for you to choose from, but there are two more characters for you to unlock and eventually play as. The first of these is the highly-agile Duchess; a Nightfarer capable of evading attacks with ease and restaging recent events so she can duplicate her damage.

She’s also got a very high Intelligence stat, so while the Duchess prefers stabbing away at foes behinds with daggers, she’s also able to deal plenty of damage with Magic infusions or Staffs and Sorceries. To check the Nightfarer out for yourself, here’s how to unlock the Duchess in Nightreign.

How to unlock Duchess in Nightreign

To unlock the Duchess in Nightreign, you’ll want to set out on an Expedition against the first Nightlord, Tricephalos (also known as Gladius, Beast of Night). If you manage to successfully beat him, you’ll receive the Old Pocketwatch item.

Don’t fret if you don’t beat him or are struggling, however, as the Old Pocket Watch item also has a chance of being randomly awarded to you after each Gladius attempt. So, you might end up with it in your inventory following your second run, your third run, etc. with some luck, though you are guaranteed to get it upon defeating Gladius.

Should you give the Priestess the Old Pocketwatch in Nightreign?

Once you safely have the Old Pocketwatch tucked away in your inventory, speak to the Priestess in the Hold and give her the item. Doing so will trigger a cutscene in which the Priestess removes her cloak and reveals her true identity, and following this, the Duchess will become a playable Nightfarer.

You should also be able to now go ahead and begin the first steps of Duchess’ Remembrance quest via the Journal in the east wing of the Hold. These quests will provide you with an objective; sometimes you’ll need to retrieve a specific item during your next Expedition (and this will be marked on your map), and other times you may need to complete a run or beat a specific boss as a designated Nightfarer.
