KCD 2: Mutt quest walkthrough and guide
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s Mutt quest is essentially your introduction to Trosky. The journey to find Henry’s dog hopefully hale and hearty takes you from the woods near Bozhena’s house across most of the game’s expansive first map, intersecting with more than one additional side quest as you go along. It’s a lengthy adventure, though if you’re keen to explore at your own pace and just want to find Mutt fast, you can do that, too.
Our KCD 2 Mutt quest guide breaks down each step of this long starter quest and points out where to find Mutt, in case you just want to skip to the end.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Mutt quest walkthrough
- Travel west of Zhelejov, to the Wagoner’s Inn, then north of Tachov
- Bait the wolves
- Speak with the gamekeeper near Vidlak
- Rescue the gamekeeper
- Find Mutt
KCD 2 Mutt quest part 1
The quest’s first step unlocks as soon as you regain control of Henry, after he’s freed from the stocks. It shows up with the other two main story quests, and it’s marked with a green “A” on your map. The first part of the quest literally just involves you traveling to that location. It’s west of Bozhena’s house, and you can follow the road from Troskowitz to Zhelejov, then into the woods, without much issue until you reach the quest marker.
You’ll come across a dead deer that’s apparently been savaged by dogs and a bandit who you have to kill. Henry assumes Mutt was this dog, or one of them, and decides to ask Bozhena if she’s seen anything. Loot both corpses – you can sell what you don’t need – then return to Bozhena’s home and speak with her. She should be normal about it all, but if she acts like she has no idea who you are, you may need to re-load and try again.
KCD 2 Mutt quest part 2
Bozhena directs you to the Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn and some random fishermen who might know about Mutt. The inn is much closer, so head there first and speak with the innkeeper. The fishermen don’t actually know where Mutt is, so unless you want to take a detour to Vidlak, you can technically just skip that step.
While you’re in the area, consider looking for the Map of the Zhelejov Marshes treasure.
KCD 2 Mutt quest part 3

Following the innkeeper’s clues eventually leads you to some shepherds north of Tachov, and one, a herdsboy named Siegfried, needs your help with a wolf problem. He asks you to take Ignatius, his dumbest ram, to a nearby slope and use him as bait for the wolves. Interact with Ignatius, and he’ll follow you up the hill. Leave him in the quest area, then make your way to a clump of bushes to wait for the wolves.
Henry remarks when the wolves appear. Attack and either defeat or drive the wolves off – ideally without them killing Ignatius, though there’s no penalty if that happens. Mutt wasn’t here, so Siegfried sends you to find Gamekeeper Vostatek.
KCD 2 Mutt quest part 4

Vostatek and his wife live in a house southeast of Vidlak, but Vostatek isn’t home. His wife asks you to find him, which starts the Lackey side quest, a short-ish mission involving some wolves and a drunk up a tree.
Finish that, speak with Vostatek once he’s safely back home, and he’ll tell you about yet another pack of wolves. This one roams about north of the Nomad’s Camp just a little ways west of where the Mutt quest first started and from the Drowner’s Treasure location.
KCD 2 Mutt location

Travel to the point shown on the map above, and you’ll find a trail of dead animals. That trail leads you to a cave, where Mutt’s happily digging around. The wolf pack emerges from the cave, and what comes next is basically a tutorial for how to use Mutt in battle. Direct him to attack the wolves alongside you to make this battle easier.
Again, it’s completely viable to just visit this location from the start and find Mutt. It alters how a few of the associated quests play out. For example, there’s no need to chat to the innkeeper in Zhelejov, and Vostatek won’t have anything to say about Mutt if you finish Lackey later. However, you don’t miss out on anything.
