Love and Deepspace Abyssal Chaos: How to get all of Caleb’s endings in Final Farewell
At the time of writing, Caleb is the only Love and Deepspace companion who can’t accompany you on the Find Tobias commission, simply because he wasn’t in the game yet when it was released and Infold haven’t got around to writing him a storyline. Fortunately, the Abyssal Chaos endgame investigations don’t grant affinity gains, so you aren’t technically missing out on any romantic opportunities by not being able to choose him as your companion for the first commission. However, it does arguably make getting all of his unique endings in Final Farewell all the more important for Caleb mains.
Seeing every possible outcome in LaDS’ endgame investigations comes with plenty of rewards, and while it’s not a waste of time to get the same ending on multiple runs, the most efficient way to play is to aim for a different ending with every playthrough. To that end, read on for details of every Abyssal Chaos Final Farewell Caleb ending, and the exact steps you need to follow to unlock them.
LaDS Abyssal Chaos Final Farewell: All Caleb Endings
There are six total endings to the Final Farewell commission with Caleb; however, two of them are minor variants on a couple of others, so you only need to play through the commission four times in total to unlock all the outcomes – assuming you pick all the correct answers, that is.
Below are the right choices to make for each of Caleb’s endings in Final Farewell.
Ending 1: Devour
Answers by scene:
- Final Farewell I: Time to trust your gut. Go left.
- Final Farewell II: Let Caleb keep watch.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 1): Ordinary letters.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 2): We shouldn’t alert the enemy.
- Final Farewell IV: Call out Caleb.
- Final Farewell V: (No choices due to previous decisions)
- What Endures: Let the guard decide.
Devour is the standard ending to Final Farewell that you tend to get if your decisions didn’t unlock any other special outcomes for the finale, so this is likely to be the one you’ll see if you make choices at random on a first playthrough. However, you can follow these steps if you’re still missing Devour and want to guarantee that you see it.
Ending 2: Lost
Answers by scene:
- Final Farewell I: Get out of the car and look around.
- Final Farewell II: Let Caleb search the room.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 1): These letters raise suspicions.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 2): Let’s search other areas.
- Final Farewell IV: Continue resting.
- Final Farewell V: Ask more questions.
- What Endures: Destroy the server.
Lost is a “secret” ending to Final Farewell that unlocks via a hidden combat node. You could regard this as the “bad” ending to Final Farewell, but there are no actual consequences outside of a comparatively downbeat end to the story, and you’ll even get an achievement for completing the hidden combat event.
Endings 3 & 4: Memory’s Haven / Homecoming
Answers by scene:
- Final Farewell I: Get out of the car and look around.
- Final Farewell II: Let Caleb search the room.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 1): These letters raise suspicions.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 2): Let’s search other areas.
- Final Farewell IV: Call out Caleb.
- Final Farewell V: Stop him.
- What Endures: There’s more to this man than meets the eye.
- Hidden Choice: Back up the data first.
Following these steps exactly will unlock two endings simultaneously: Memory’s Haven and Homecoming, the latter being a variation on the former with an extra scene unlocked by a special mission item. At the end of the commission, the Homecoming end card will display, but your endings tracker will correctly show that you’ve unlocked both.
If you want to unlock Memory’s Haven separately at any point to see its end card, simply make the opposite choice during Final Farewell IV (“Continue resting” instead of “Call out to Caleb”) so that you don’t pick up the second special mission item, and otherwise follow the steps for Homecoming.
Endings 5 & 6: Beyond the End / Shared Path
Answers by scene:
- Final Farewell I: Get out of the car and look around.
- Final Farewell II: Let Caleb search the room.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 1): These letters raise suspicions.
- Final Farewell III (Choice 2): Let’s search other areas.
- Final Farewell IV: Call out Caleb.
- Final Farewell V: Stop him.
- What Endures: There’s more to this man than meets the eye.
- Hidden Choice: Maybe the data can be retrieved.
Following these steps exactly will unlock two endings simultaneously: Beyond the End and Shared Path, the latter being a variation on the former with an extra scene unlocked by a special mission item. At the end of the commission, the Shared Path end card will display, but your endings tracker will correctly show that you’ve unlocked both.
If you want to unlock Beyond the End separately at any point to see its end card, simply make the opposite choice during Final Farewell IV (“Continue resting” instead of “Call out to Caleb”) so that you don’t pick up the second special mission item, and otherwise follow the steps for Shared Path.
