Love and Deepspace story: A spoiler-free guide to every arc, chapter, and section in the main story

Love and Deepspace is pulling off a rare trick, as a live-service game with a story that its players actually seem to care about! There’s not an awful lot of extra content gated behind the main narrative, either; I suppose when it comes to dating sim-slash-ARPG hybrids, it shows that most fans came here by way of visual novels first and foremost.

As it stands, LaDS gets a new injection of main story content two or three times a year, and chapters all follow the same basic pattern: consisting of a dozen or so small sections of at most 10-15 minutes in length, split up by helpful auto-save/load screens that give you the opportunity to leave off if it’s not a convenient time for you to continue (thank you Infold for remembering you’re making a mobile game here!).

Most sections are there to advance the plot, but there’s usually one story battle per chapter that sees you teamed up with a trial version of whichever character you’re paired with canonically at the time; and things are capped off with a series of challenge levels that are designed to ensure you aren’t neglecting to level up your team.

On this page, we’ve put together a spoiler-free overview of Love and Deepspace’s main story, including information about what level you need to reach to unlock each chapter, which romanceable characters you’ll encounter and when, and recommended team levels for challenge battles.

Read on for a summary of each of the Love and Deepspace main story arcs:

Under Deepspace

Under Deepspace is the first story in Love and Deepspace’s main campaign, and is to date the longest, with eight chapters in total. Over the course of this story you will unlock Xavier, Zayne, and Rafayel as romanceable characters, and get to know Caleb as an NPC ahead of him unlocking as a love interest later on.

It’s also worth noting that due to the story skip function added for later updates lowering some overall combat requirements, the final boss of Under Deepspace currently has the highest recommended team level of any enemy in the story (although there are tougher enemies in the non-campaign Battle modes).

Chapter 1: To Begin

As soon as you load up the game for the first time you’ll be dropped right into a prologue story chapter called Singularity Echo, which is marked as Story 00. During this story beat you’ll be able to name your character and customise her appearance before moving on to the rest of the chapter, in which you’ll meet the original companion trio, and unlock Xavier as a love interest.

Chapter 2: The First Mission

This is the only chapter in the game with no level prerequisites or combat challenge unlock requirements; you just need to complete the first chapter, and you’ll be invited to carry on to the second straight away. Over the course of this chapter you’ll unlock Zayne and Rafayel — who you’ve already encountered as NPCs — as love interests.

Chapter 3: Talented Hunter

This chapter continues the story of the heroine’s induction into UNICORN and her early missions as a Deepspace Hunter. Xavier makes several appearances as they get to know each other through work, and is the in-story battle companion for the chapter.

In this chapter you’ll meet Caleb – a future unlockable love interest – as an NPC, as well as learn something of the heroine’s backstory and her childhood memories of growing up with both Caleb and Zayne, who is also the in-story battle companion for this chapter.

Chapter 7: Moonlight Under Sea

This chapter focuses on the heroine getting to know Rafayel while moonlighting as his bodyguard in exchange for his help in an investigation. Rafayel is your companion for the story battles.

There are two story battles in this chapter rather than the usual one; this ensures that Rafayel has been your companion in an equal number of battles to Xavier and Zayne, both of whom got more focus in earlier chapters. To balance things out, there’s one less Challenge to pass at the end.

Chapter 8: Galactic Sunset

The final chapter of Under Deepspace wraps up the opening storyline and brings back all three love interests introduced so far in plot-relevant roles, with Xavier as the in-story battle companion once more. It’s also technically the chapter where you catch your first glimpse of Sylus, although it’s just a fleeting cameo to tease his proper introduction in the next story.

Long-Awaited Revelry

Long-Awaited Revelry is the second main story arc in Love and Deepspace, added to the game in the Version 2.0 update that launched in July 2024. It introduces Sylus as a love interest and battle companion. It’s also relatively short, with only two chapters, and is noteworthy for not featuring any of the romanceable characters other than Sylus.

Chapter 1: Ambiguous Chaos

This chapter picks up just moments after the end of Under Deepspace, and sees the heroine kidnapped by Onychinus after entering the N109 Zone. It marks Sylus’ proper introduction, although battling with him as your companion forces you to use a restricted version of his kit with no resonance powers for story reasons.

Prologue To Tomorrow

Prologue To Tomorrow is the third main story arc of Love and Deepspace. Introduced between Versions 2 and 3 as part of the 2024 end-of-year break between updates, Prologue To Tomorrow is structured a little differently from other story arcs in LaDS. Although technically only one chapter long, this story arc features three full-length sub-chapters called Special Operations, focusing on each of the original trio of love interests.

Chapter 1: Eye Of The Storm

Unlocks at Hunter Level 15 (you can skip here anytime after reaching this level)

This is the framing story for Prologue To Tomorrow. Special Operations are unlocked between the second and third story beats and can be completed in any order.

Selecting a Special Operation is framed as the heroine choosing a partner to help her ongoing investigations into the Aether Cores from the last story arc. Completing any one Special Operation will allow you to continue with the story, although it’s recommended to complete all three eventually: all three stories play out very differently, and there are separate rewards for completing each one.

Homecoming Wings

Homecoming Wings is the fourth main story arc of Love and Deepspace, added to the game in the Version 3.0 update that launched in January 2025. It reintroduces Caleb – a popular NPC from the first arc – in his new role as a fully-fledged love interest, and also gives Zayne an important supporting role in the story, which is split across two chapters.

This chapter sees the long-anticipated return of fan-favourite supporting character Caleb, who now reappears in a much larger role as a romanceable companion.
