Monster Hunter Wilds Chatacabra guide: weaknesses, strategy, rewards
Monster Hunter games like to ease you into the flow of things, especially when it comes to the difficulty of monsters. This is true in the case of Monster Hunter Wilds, too, which means the first few monsters you’ll be pitted against will be nowhere near as challenging as what you’re going to come across ten, 20 or 30 hours later.
The Chatacabra is one such monster, one of the few beasts that serve as a tutorial of the game’s mechanics. In this guide, we’ll provide all the information you need to take it on, as well as learn what elements it’s weak against.
Chatacabra weaknesses
The Chatacabra is mainly weak against Ice, and Thunder. That said, you’re also going to get good results when using weapons with the Poison, Paralysis, Stun, Sleep, Blastblight, and Exhaust elements. Flash Pods can temporarily blind the Chatacabra, too, which can be used to stun it when it does its barrel charges towards you, or to simply create an opening.
Chatacabra strategy
The Chatacabra is a frog-like creature found in the Plains, with a tough exterior, and a soft belly. The hard shell protecting it is best tackled with weapons that deal blunt damage, but if you don’t have one of those you should aim for its tongue.
As with other monsters with hard exteriors, you can chip away at its shell to reveal soft tissue that will take far greater damage. Pay attention to the Chatacabra’s forelegs; destroying the ore that forms a protective shell around it will open a wound and let you deal significant damage. Indeed, triggering (and taking advantage of) wounds is a great strategy in general that will not only help you deal a lot of damage very quickly, it’s also a good way to farm materials.
