The big chicken known as the Quematrice is one of the early monsters you’re going to come across in Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s not a very challenging fight, but it can get a little tricky in later stages as the monster becomes more agitated.
In this guide, we’ve rounded up all the necessary information you need to know about the monster’s weaknesses, some tips on the fight itself, as well as some generally useful information about the best way to take it down.
The Quematrice is a brute wyvern that, well, looks like an oversized chicken – and often behaves like one, too. It can be found in the Plains, and Wyveria regions.
Quematrice weaknesses
The Quematrice is strongly weak against the Water element, but you can also get some really good results using Poison, and Paralysis. The monster is also weak – though much less so – against Sleep, Blastblight, Stun, and Exhaust.
Quematrice strategy
The Quematrice is something of a clever beast that will test your ability to read its movement. Its main gimmick is spreading a flammable substance along the ground, typically in the shape of a circle or crescent moon around it. This substance can be ignited to form a flame barrier around the monster that will cause you to catch on fire if you go through it.
After spreading this oil, the monster swipes its tail to ignite it, so you want to finish your attack just before that happens. Until the substance is ignited, it’s not actually harmful, so a really good knockback could interrupt the monster and cause it to not ignite it.
Any of its flame attacks will cause you to catch the Fireblight, which rapidly depletes your HP. You can roll around for a bit to put it out. If you manage to cut the tail, the monster will become more physically aggressive, but it won’t be able to cause anywhere near as much fire damage.
Bring some Flash Pods to interrupt and temporarily stun the monster.
