With over 50 different six-star Arcanists to summon in Reverse: 1999, alongside over 20 five-stars and many more four and three-stars who you meet during the story, there are some who stand out from the crowd as the strongest characters in the game. These S-tier characters will handle battles with ease, especially when paired with other S or A-tier characters they can synergise with.
In this Reverse: 1999 tier list, we’ve ranked all of the games’ characters, and made some suggestions as to what role each character can play on a team. While you’ll easily fly through the early-game with any of the characters that are handed to you, you’ll find that making the most of your strongest Arcanists will make the late-game and hard mode that little bit less troublesome to get through.
Without further ado, here’s our Reverse: 1999 tier list.
Reverse: 1999 tier list
This Reverse: 1999 tier list primarily focuses on early to mid game content, though the high tier characters suggested here – when levelled, built, and placed in appropriate teams – will no doubt get you through much more difficult content such as Raids and Hard Mode too.
Thanks is owed to the many veteran Reverse: 1999 players who have contributed to the community Arcanist Tier List and Prydwen, which both helped inform this tier list. As a result, it’s worth noting that this particular tier list is largely based on five-star and below characters having their highest Portrait, while six-star characters are based on having no Portrait.

For those who have just started playing Reverse: 1999, it’s worth noting that the Timely Reinforcements event (accessed by selecting the small doorway icon in the top-left corner of the game’s menu) allows players to choose a free six-star to unlock, depending on how much you have progressed with the story. With this selector, you can choose to unlock an S-tier character such as Malenia or Medicine Pocket, or A-Tier character Sotheby.
Similarly, you can also get your hands on S-tier Malenia, Vila, or Marcus from the Ripples on the Water banner, which lets you select one of six characters to Summon.
S-Tier
The S-Tier’s of this Reverse: 1999 tier list are the best of the bunch, and are characters capable of carrying teams with ease (or providing levels of support you won’t necessarily get from lower tier characters). For example, Ezio Auditoire – who isn’t even the best of the S-tiers – has been able to clear lots of story content with little input from the rest of the team in my experience.
For strong carries, you want to look at Ezio, Nautika, Lucy, Recoleta, Anjo Nala, and Marcus. For more supportive S-tiers who can keep your team alive with ease, take a look at Medicine Pocket, Fatutu, and Vila. For utility-based characters who can support your team with buffs, crowd control, and other useful abilities, look at Flutterpage, Melania, Charon, and Semmelweis.
As always, do remember to take the complexity of each character’s kit into consideration, as some are much more complex to play than others. The most difficult of characters to master cannot be played in Auto mode, as they’ll require your input to ensure you’re making the most of their abilities.
A-Tier
Characters placed in A-Tier of this Reverse: 1999 tier list won’t perform quite as exceptionally as S-tier units, but they’ll still perform very well. Mix and match characters from this tier and S-Tier, upgrade them using Euphoria if you can (which we talk about a little more below), and you’ll still have a very strong team to help make your way through the game’s content.
A-Tier carries include Windsong, Centurion, Hissabeth, and Jiu Nangzi. For more supportive DPS characters who can dish out some damage alongside buffs or heals include Getian, Lopera, Regulus, Tuesday, Voyager, Kakania, and Mercuria.
B-Tier
The B-Tier of this Reverse: 1999 tier list is a mix. There are plenty of six-star characters, as well as the adorable five-star that is Buddy Fairchild who uses the power of friendship to buff his team and dish out damage.
It’s worth noting that a few of these characters perform best when using Euphoria to upgrade them, such as Pickles or Jessica. The Euphoria system essentially grants these characters a new lease of life by kitting them out with additional abilities and shouldn’t be ignored if you want to make the most of your units.
C-Tier and D-Tier
As you can quickly see, the C-Tier and D-Tier of our Reverse 1999 tier list largely consists of the game’s five star characters (with a few exceptions), but this doesn’t mean you should avoid using them! Many of Reverse: 1999’s characters can perform well as part of a team fortunately (including four and three-stars if need be, especially using Portraits), so being in C-Tier or D-Tier isn’t damning in this tier list.
Of course, if you’ve multiple six-star or S and A-Tier characters and can build a team out of them, then do that! Your six-star team will outperform many five-star compositions, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pair your best characters with some of your favourite five-stars or low-tier characters. For example, Name Day, Yenisei, and Sonetta are three supportive characters that can be easily slotted into many teams, and while they might not have the biggest damage outputs or highest HP bars, they can be of benefit for your best offensive characters.
E-Tier and F-Tier
As mentioned above, characters placed in E and F-Tier aren’t necessarily damned to live in your Crew menu at Level 1 forever, but they can have quite niche kits and you are more than likely to have characters that perform their roles better. These characters perform perfectly well during the early to mid game, but their often specific and limited uses ultimately don’t provide much to a team as you progress with the game.
As you unlock more powerful characters through the story and via Summoning, you’ll soon see for yourself that those in E and F-Tier are quick to succumb in battle or don’t offer as much as you’d like to the rest of the team.
These characters can still be used if you’ve a slot in your team that needs filling and their kit is a good fit for it (especially so during the early-game or Breezy Mode), but when it comes to Reverse: 1999’s more difficult content, you want to ideally build a team using characters that are part of higher tiers so your resources and AP are being put to good use, especially so if you want to Auto content or clear it quickly.
