Where to find a Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds’ post-game features all manner of side missions, and a lot of them act as fetch quests, tasking you with tracking down some form of Endemic Life, Aquatic Life, or monster materials for one of your allies in exchange for rewards and Hunter Rank experience.

Kanya, who is often found fishing by Scarlet Forest’s Base Camp, has a few fishing-related side missions for keen anglers to go and complete. After having fetched her a Goldenfish, she then requests a Gravid Bowfin, who fortunately isn’t too hard to get your hands on once you know where to look. Here’s where to find a Gravid Bowfin in monster Hunter Wilds.

Where to find a Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

To catch a Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds, you want to first travel to the Plains biome. Now, remember the desert where you will have fought with the Chutacabra at the very beginning of the game? There’s a pond in the very middle of it, right where the Oasis Pop-Up Camp can be built.

If you’re getting lost looking at the map, look for Area 13 of the Plains; the pond is in the very middle!

Once you reach the desert pond, you want to equip your fishing rod and begin fishing quickly, as this is quite a dangerous area and it’s likely only a matter of time before some sort of monster comes along to beat you up and destroy your Pop-Up Camp.

The Gravid Bowfin is a fish that has a red/orange hue to it, and it is smaller than the commonly found Sushifish, making it relatively easy to identify once it spawns. That said, the Gravid Bowfin doesn’t always spawn in this pond, so you may need to rest at your Pop-Up Camp until it does.

You can also quickly clear the pond of fish you don’t need by fishing for them, or alternatively using your Capture Net to quickly grab them. Do not use your Capture Net to catch the Gravid Bowfin, however, as this does not count towards completing the side mission; you must catch it using your Fishing Rod.

The Gravid Bowfin prefers the Emerald Jitterbug lure, and in my experience, was rather picky about when they wanted to bite. I managed to catch them during the evening while wiggling my lure back and forth a bit.
