Where to find a strange whirlpool in Fisch
Finding a strange whirlpool in Fisch is a lot more enjoyable than finding a regular one, since strange whirlpools won’t actually kill you if you get too close. They also have a chance to spawn a rare fish you won’t find anywhere else, alongside some standard fish that aren’t that special, but when in Rome – er, the strange whirlpool – etc etc. And if you want to reach the Great Abyss, a strange whirlpool is your only ticket there.
Below, we explain where to find a strange whirlpool in Fisch and what to do with it once you track one down.
Where to find a strange whirlpool in Fisch
Strange whirlpools spawn in the First Sea generally, but, as far as we’ve been able to tell, not at fixed coordinates. There’s a chance one or more will appear in these areas:
- Moosewood
- Statue of Sovereignty
- Roslit Bay
- Earmark Island
- Forsaken Shores
- Tarapin Island
- The Arch
While the randomness of the location sounds like a pain, the strange whirlpool does emit a beacon of light (one of the features that distinguishes it from regular whirlpools), so it is, at least, comparatively easy to spot from a distance.
The particulars might change in future Fisch updates, but for now, strange whirlpools spawn during random events and stick around for approximately 15 minutes. Like with other server events, such as the Black Market, you’ll see a notification pop up on the screen alerting you to a strange whirlpool’s appearance, though it won’t point out where the vortex is.
What do strange whirlpools do in Fisch?
For one thing, they don’t kill you like regular whirlpools do (though some players have reported normal whirlpools spawning inside strange whirlpools, so bear that in mind before you go jumping in). Strange whirlpools serve two main purposes. The first is to transport you to Vertigo, and it is, as of the time of writing, the only way to get to Vertigo, aka the Great Abyss.
The Great Abyss is home to a special store and a deeper layer where you can find the Rod of Depths and a fishing spot that has a (very) low chance of yielding enchant relics when you fish there. You can also find the Brick Rod and some rare fish.
Strange Whirlpools also have their own set of fish you can potentially catch in them. Most of them are common, though the only way to catch an Isonade is to fish in a strange whirlpool.
