Where to get a horse in Oblivion Remastered
It’s time to mount up and explore the legendary world of Tamriel in Oblivion Remastered. But whether you’re roaming the rolling hills of Cydrodiil for the first time or returning to rediscover the magic, you will still need a horse to traverse the length of the vast map from Bruma next to northern border with Skyrim all the way down to Leyawiin sandwiched between the Khajit and Argonian homelands of Elsweyr and Blackwood.
Open world games have changed a lot since Oblivion first dropped in 2006, and the plodding pace at which you’re expected to cover large distances can get old for even the most dedicated of roleplayers. To speed up your expedition, here’s where and how to get a horse in Oblivion Remastered.
Where to get a horse in Oblivion
To get your first horse in Oblivion, you need to follow the main quest.
First, as you leave the sewers beneath the Imperial City, your main quest will be to deliver the Amulet of Kings to Brother Jauffre at Weynon Priory in the northeast of Cyrodiil, on the outskirts of Chorrol.
While this is a matter of utmost importance, given the open-ended nature of Oblivion, it’s easy to wander off in another direction and get swept up in some quest or another.
However, if you stick to the main quest, just for this first part, when you reach Weynon Priory and deliver the Amulet to Jeauffre, he’ll lend you Prior Maborel’s Paint Horse. Despite being the slowest mount you can muster, it’s more than sufficient for ferrying you between undiscovered fast travel points.
So much so that I wouldn’t recommend ever buying a horse at the stables outside any of the major cities – you’re much better off saving your money for big purchases like houses, raw materials for crafting or soul gems for recharging weapons.
Also, without delving into spoilers, you’re also gifted a much faster and stronger horse for completing one of the main faction quests in Oblivion, so you’ll get an upgrade sooner or later!
