Tips to Campaign and Conquest Mode

Campaign

If you’re struggling in big maps like Vulcan, Berlin, North America, etc. Here some tips to help in your campaign.

First of all, check the whole map, look for the objectives, cities and also check your tasks, this is very important to visualize the route you must take and don’t lose turns because you were busy defeating enemies far from that route.

Second, predict the movements, it happens very often that if you just send your troops in front to the enemy cities you’ll be stopped (trapped) because an unspotted unit appeared just in front of you. How to avoid that? Easy, look for clues, such as fortifications (check the picture) because it will be almost sure that an infantry unit or tank will be there or if the enemy attacked the last turn you can see where did they attacked; if you have the opportunity to use a radar (remember only infantry is available to use it) do it, or use the airport to spot.

Third, if you’re going to split your forces, do it at your needs, sometimes splitting your forces without knowing what’s in front or just trying to kill an enemy could be a fatal mistake. Move in group, in that way you’ll have more cover and also you’ll avoid to be surrounded, specially when the enemy has more forces than you.

Fourth, use well your generals, if you have the opportunity or need to resupply them, do it. Make a wise use of your economy, as more as you capture, the more income you have.

Fifth, sometimes you find that you weren’t able to reach a target at time, and you wonder why you couldn’t, if you followed all of the above and yet you couldn’t is because you probably didn’t used forces with good mobility. If you have to move long distances, specially in difficult terrain such as deserts or snow, use transport units (available for infantry and artillery) in that way, those unit can keep the path of their armoured units and don’t get behind, if you have an airport close you can use paratroopers on infantry units.

Conquests

So allow me to chip in with conquests.

From someone who is halfway through farming all the conquests, here are some tips.

  1. Conquest is not a beginner’s mode. It is doable, if you have the time and willpower to last countless turns. But for the sake of your sanity, please attempt conquest when you have at least 3 infantry generals.
  2. Conquest is about capturing cities to annihilate the enemy. It is NOT about destroying every single one of their forces. Save yourself the pain.
  3. To capture cities, airborne should be used. Make sure you have US airborne before starting on conquest.

3.5 It is advisable to upgrade and promote all of your airborne movements and sights for conquest.

  1. Don’t only attack in one direction.

You’ll want enough infantry generals to move out to all corners of the world from turn 1.

Hence point 1.

  1. Enemies will travel towards you. If you are about to attack a city, consider stopping a tile away from the city instead and luring the defenders out before capturing it.
  2. Conquest has an extra move feature. Every turn, it will be reusable on one of your troops. Use it wisely to take cities.
  3. Cities can be held with a single stack of infantry. Do not attack enemies and simply allow that stack to sleep there. It will last long.

Restacking is sometimes also not needed if only one enemy is present. They will waste their turn killing your infantry but be unable to move in.

  1. The Ai will never, ever, use airborne. Don’t worry about those.
  2. The AI leaves backline cities completely undefended. As long as you do not enter the city’s view (2 grids), it will not generate an infantry to hold the city. Airborne in.
  3. Every general you have will be an infantry general. In the early game where most things are decided, you simply will not have the cash to stack up tanks.

If desperate, even guderian can be an infantry general

That’s it. Hold the cities, airborne and bonus move your generals around, wipe out the country before they can take back their cities. Rinse and repeat.
