SpiritVale – Understanding Damage Calculation & Gear Choices

Understanding Damage Calculation & Gear Choices

Ву Zodiac.

One of the most common questions in SpiritVale is which offensive stat provides the greatest damage increase. The answer depends on your current build and existing bonuses.

A useful way to understand the system is to think of each damage multiplier as a separate bucket of water. Your final damage is the product of all these buckets multiplied together.

The Water Bucket Principle

  • If a bucket contains very little water, adding more to it results in a large damage increase.
  • If a bucket is already full, adding more provides a much smaller improvement due to diminishing returns.

The goal is to keep your damage multipliers reasonably balanced rather than investing everything into a single stat.

Damage Formula

Physical Damage

Total Damage = Base ATK × ATK% × Weapon Modifier × Damage Type × Damage vs. Enemy Element × Element Damage × Critical Damage

Magic Damage

Total Damage = Base MATK × MATK% × Weapon Modifier × Damage Type × Damage vs. Enemy Element × Element Damage

Magic damage cannot critically strike, so Critical Damage does not apply.

Damage Multipliers Explained

Base ATK / MATK

Obtained from:

  • Character level
  • STR, DEX, or INT
  • Weapon Attack

Increasing your base attack improves the effectiveness of every other multiplier.

ATK% / MATK%

Sources include:

  • Character attributes
  • Cards
  • Enchantments
  • Skills

Every 10 STR, DEX, or INT grants +1% ATK/MATK.

Weapon Modifier

Using a two-handed weapon grants an additional 25% damage multiplier.

Damage Type

Includes:

  • Melee Damage%
  • Ranged Damage%
  • Magic Damage%

Damage vs. Enemy Element

Bonuses against specific enemy elements, such as:

  • Damage vs. Fire Enemies
  • Damage vs. Earth Enemies
  • Damage vs. Holy Enemies

Element Damage

Increases the damage of attacks matching your weapon’s element, including:

  • Fire Damage
  • Earth Damage
  • Holy Damage
  • Other elemental bonuses

Critical Damage

Only affects physical attacks that critically strike.

Magic builds can safely ignore this multiplier.

Choosing Between Gear Stats

Damage Melee vs. Critical Damage

When comparing Damage Melee +5% with Critical Damage +10%, the Critical Damage bonus will often provide a larger increase despite already having substantial Critical Damage because the raw bonus is twice as large.

Damage Melee vs. Element Damage

If both bonuses provide the same percentage (for example, Damage Melee +5% versus Element Damage +5%), choose the multiplier with the lower current value. Increasing the weaker multiplier generally produces a larger overall damage gain.

Artifact Comparison

Warglyph

The strongest overall option due to its large +34% Base ATK increase.

Corporeal

Ranks second by providing +20% Element Damage, significantly improving a relatively small multiplier.

Steelheart

Provides +20% Melee Damage, but its impact is reduced if your build already has substantial Melee Damage bonuses.

Furybrand

Additional Critical Damage offers the smallest improvement when your build already has high Critical Damage.

Key Takeaways

  • Try to distribute your bonuses across multiple damage multipliers instead of stacking only one.
  • A significantly larger bonus can still outperform perfect multiplier balance, even if it affects a well-developed stat.
  • When comparing equal bonuses, choose the multiplier with the lowest current value.
  • Other multipliers such as Attack Speed, Cast Speed, and Multistrike follow their own scaling rules depending on the build.
