How To Activate The Alien Door And Alien Turbine In Subnautica 2
Are you scratching your head because of the alien door in Subnautica 2? This curious-looking object is supposed to lead you to the inner recesses of the observatory. Likewise, just a short distance away, there’s a massive turbine that seems to lack power. We’ve got all the details for you in this guide, but be ready for a few spoilers, too.
Subnautica 2 guide – Alien observatory door and turbine
The alien observatory door in Subnautica 2 is fairly close to the Alien Ruins biome/marker, which is a key objective once you’re done with the Tadpole Pens. If you’re just free-roaming, then the structure is actually 1,100 meters east of the Lifepod. Beware, though, because there are several enemies, including a deadly leviathan, along the way.
Alien Ruins biome
Upon reaching the alien observatory, you’ll notice a pedestal and a doorway. You can’t do anything yet, as you’re told that the device requires a massive amount of power to function. For now, though, just explore the Alien Ruins biome and the abandoned base. You should also craft the Bioscanner upgrade and Feedback Resonator upgrade. Both of these are integral for the next tasks.
The Angel Comb and Axum Vision Adaptation
Before you can activate the Subnautica 2 alien door, you must first learn the language of these ancient beings via an Adaptation ability. Here’s a quick summary:
- If you swim to the large open area past the base, you’ll see a turbine directly above an Angel Comb. The Angel Comb itself will have a marker on your screen.
- There are two control rooms along the cliffs: one that’s higher up top and one closer to the bottom. Your character won’t be able to understand the terminals at all.
- Go to the Angel Comb and trace a path by following the purple tendrils. Your goal now is to destroy the Bloom Cankers–i.e. corrupted nodules with a light blue glow. The difference here is that these pustules close up when you’re within proximity. However, if you have the Feedback Resonator, you can blast them from afar with sonic projectiles.
- One tendril branch splits off into two.
- The left-hand side is along a ravine and the other leads to a cavern below the Alien Ruins base.
- Use the Feedback Resonator to destroy the Bloom Cankers in both locations.
- The other branch leads to a pool with an eerie green glow, known as the Metal Farms.
- Swim a bit higher toward the plateaus until you see a crashed ship. This is the Cicada Wreck (Stairway to Heaven).
- Destroy the bloom web and enter the ship. There’s a cavernous area down below with a couple of Bloom Cankers. Don’t worry about your air supply since there are several Oxygen Tunics in this location, too.
Return to the Angel Comb and blast the two Bloom Cankers with your Feedback Resonator. The Angel Comb’s pink bulb should be visible now. Interact with it to obtain the Axum Vision Adaptation. This special ability allows you to read inscriptions and glyphs on alien structures.

How to repair the alien turbine
Here’s what you need to do next if you want to activate the alien turbine in Subnautica 2:
- Check the cliffside area and enter the lower control room. Press the button on the terminal to lower the structure.
- Swim up to the propellers and look for several metal crates left behind my colonists. You should find a databank entry called “Turbine Repair Plan.”
- Scan the propeller with your Bioscanner.
- Switch to your Repair Tool to see the materials that you need.
If you’re playing on Creative Mode, then this shouldn’t be a hassle since you’ve got unlimited resources. But if you’re playing on Survival Mode, then you have to do a bit of farming. The materials below all require a Processor:
- 10x Titanium Ingot – You need a total of 30x Titanium.
- 10x Strontium – You need a total of 20x Celestine.
- 10x Mangalloy Ingot – You need 10x Titanium Ingots, 10x Atacamites, and 10x Troilites. Atacamites are dark crystal nodes at the seabed in the Alien Ruins biome. As for Troilites, these come from dark green minerals near the aforementioned Metal Farms pool.

How to activate the machine
Once the propeller has been repaired, it’s time to activate the turbine itself:
- Go to the control room that’s higher up the cliffside area.
- The two terminals on the left and right-hand sides have several dials/switches. Interact with each switch until the symbols match the position of the arrows. This will cause the symbols to turn green.
- Press the switch with the claw-like symbol to activate the terminals.
- Check the central terminal in front and press the switch as well.

What’s behind the alien observatory door?
The turbine should power up the entire zone. Now, it’s time to open the alien observatory door in Subnautica 2. Once inside, interact with the lever on the bloom pedestal to access the interior. Inside, there’s an orrery that you can scan.
Next, if you swim through the gap, you’ll see another lever. If you pull the lever, a hologram will play. You’ll learn about a new region called Xanadu, which is somewhere across the Great Trench. Oh, and it seems that there are dangerous creatures known as Crypters lurking below the depths.

That does it for our guide on how to activate the alien turbine and alien door in Subnautica 2. Unfortunately, this part also concludes the initial stage of early access. Just like the previous games in the series, there will likely be more biomes and alien megalithic structures that further expand the story.
Subnautica 2 is currently in early access, which means new biomes, systems, and story beats are expected to be added as part of updates. For everything you need to know about the game, you can visit our Subnautica 2 guides hub.
