How to check your Home Rating in Petit Planet
Would Petit Planet even be able to call itself a 2020s life sim if an NPC didn’t intermittently judge you on the décor and general presentation of your house? Of course not, which is why Petit Planet does indeed feature a Home Rating system, courtesy of your shaggy dog pal Mobai.
In a sandbox-y game like Petit Planet, home evaluations help to create a sense of measured progress, as well as give you ideas as to what to do next. After all, as you embark on the slow progress of turning a deserted paradise into a gentrified suburb, it’s nice to see your personal space reflect the changes you’re seeing on a wider scale – and who doesn’t love showing off their trinkets to the neighbours? So here’s how to check your Home Rating in Petit Planet.
How to get your home evaluated in Petit Planet
After constructing your first home in Petit Planet, all-round planet manager Mobai will offer to evaluate your home upon request. Unlike other games of this type – such as Animal Crossing or Heartopia – you aren’t limited to one evaluation a week, but can ask for this service as often as you like.
In order to receive a Home Rating, you simply need to be inside your house. At this point, you can tap the Rating icon in the upper-right of the screen (or press P on keyboard) to be taken to the House Rating screen. (Note: That’s not a typo, the current build of the game uses Home Rating and House Rating interchangeably.)
Here you can view your most recent home evaluation results, and – if you so choose – Request Evaluation by clicking the button in the bottom-right.
This immediately triggers a cutscene in which Mobai enters your home and has a look around before declaring your score, along with some hints as to the feature that most impressed him and pointers as to what you can improve for next time.
I’m still figuring out all the details, but so far the high-scoring factors seem to be pretty standard as these games go, including:
- Having lots of furniture
- Displaying rare decorations and collectibles
- Matching the colours and materials of the furniture on display
- Choosing furniture from the same set(s)
Mobai’s rating also comes with a score, which intermittently upgrades you to the next evaluation level and naturally brings rewards.
