Legend of YMIR – Guide to Progression (F2P and Whales)

Beginner’s Guide to Min-Maxing Your Progression

Ву littlefatty.

This guide was made to make sure you are aware of everything that helps your progression along and that you’re making the most of your time/resources/grinding etc.

Story Deck

How they’re just as important as your Collection book.

One of the most underestimated or unknown source of stats/combat power for new players and something not most understand of how it functions.

Legend of Ymir constantly gives us free summons whether it’s through mail or crafting, and you might have seen new summons give random stats, but that’s not all there is to them.

DO NOT waste Souls, even the common ones.

Why shouldn’t you? Because they’re going to be used to get free and easy stats down the line. Don’t use them right away, you’ll need them later when you’re missing specific ones. There are THREE parts to Story Decks, that once you understand them, you’ll have a clear picture of what you need to do SPECIFICALLY for your build.

1.) Card Effects

This is the most common and obvious one. Everytime you get a new summon(Valk, Disir or Companion) the game randomly rolls you one of the 5 stats. You can reroll these stats with Deck Points which the game regularly gives you, you can buy them or craft them.

2.) Area Buff Effects

Completing a full book/deck gives you “hidden combat power” in the form of effects that only apply to a specific area, depending on which book you completed.

For example:

The completed book effects below, only apply to Hall of Valkyrie.

You’ll see the effects on the right-hand side of your Story Deck:

There are 5 levels for every single book – the level you get depends on the lowest rarity stat you have.

  • Common (Gray)
  • Uncommon (Green)
  • Rare (Blue)
  • Epic (Red)
  • Legendary (Yellow)

The example below shows that I have 2 Rare(Blue) and 3 Epic(Red) stat lines. Therefore, my Area Buff Effect is at level 3/5. Some of these area effects give progression stats like Hunting Exp, so do not neglect them.

3.) Due Diligence

Make sure you check every single book to make sure that you have cards leveled up, especially if you have a lot of deck points. See below, a Blue Book CAN contain Green and Gray cards.

For Common and Uncommon cards, I recommend at least Rare stats. You don’t have to go for Epic or Legendary unless you have a surplus of Deck Points.

Hunting Exp

Hunting Exp, while it doesn’t give direct combat potential, Ymir is a game of longevity where you are most likely grinding 24/7. Which means that the sooner you build this stat up, the more overall exp you accrue overtime. Do not sleep on this stat. Every level will give you Potential Stats(Faith, Insight, Fury etc.) once you unlock them.

Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been playing the game for a few weeks already, the way that progression works in the game, is that you are barred from doing things if your level is not high enough.

This includes getting your FREE Epic Valkyrie, Disir, Air/Ground Companion, which all help you kill mobs faster and survive better. Which again, combined with Hunting Exp, propel you forward even further. It’s thanks to this stat, that even tho I was 2 weeks behind, I’m still managing to catch up slowly.

Hunting EXP Sources:

Growth Pass

  • Just a warning: The end-date for this pass is going to be the same, regardless if you buy it from day 1 or onwards. Up to you to decide if it’s worth it to buy at any given time.

Exp Scrolls

  • The game gives these out regularly, but you can also buy them from the cash shop. It comes in Common, Uncommon and Rare. Each give 10%, 20% and 30% for 30 minutes respectively.

Collection

  • Usually pretty expensive, but will have event ones from time to time that are free, so make sure to grab those as soon as you can. Events, Rapid Growth Support, Passes mentioned above etc.
  • Make sure to check sources in the collection book.

Insight of Rock

Disir Treasure

  • Through questing or as a Boss Drop.

Story Deck

  • Harder to get and shouldn’t be your top prio, but if you’re a whale and you have HUGE surplus of Deck Points, go for it.

Valkyrie’s Blowhorn

  • Artifact, at max can give you up to 18% Hunting EXP.

Hot Time

  • Hot time basically just gives your more EXP whenever the event is up. It varies depending on your server, especially Partner Servers where the server host/admin is in charge of when they decide to activate it.

Ranged Mobs

  • They give more of everything. That includes EXP compared to their melee counterparts.

Grinding in Hall of Valkyrie

This is for people that want to try-hard or especially F2P that want to maximize their EXP potential.

Kill speed over higher exp mobs that take you slower to kill. They hit for a lot less, and the EXP difference does not justify TTK(time to kill).

If able, you want to gather up all three packs and AoE them all down. Their leash range is far enough.

Use your ultimate every time it’s off cooldown.

FYI: Do not grind on GOLD mob rooms, those do not give EXP.

Collection Book

One of the most obvious ones, but there has been too many examples of people looking down on it because of the small, incremental stats it gives.

I’ve seen too many people spend their Diamonds trying to get a Legendary Valkyrie or Disir instead of spending it on their Collection book, which would have netted them exponentially better stats and combat power than going from an Epic to a Legendary.

Do not be that person. Guaranteed stats over lottery-level odds first.

Easy Equipment

If you’re a whale, buy things out or depending on your budget, ask me on stream if you think you should buy something or not if you’re second guessing yourself.

If you’re F2P, your first go-to is your CRAFTABLE equipment. Make sure to check the BOX below.

An icon will appear on the lower left side if something is craftable.

Your main focus will be the Common equipment first.

The reason why is simple: Regular crafting material is easy to come by in the open world, and made even easier when you can just go near them and have your auto-gather turned on.

This means that even as F2P, you’re essentially guaranteed these stats.

Pro tip: Not all common gear will appear under the common category. If they’re lumped in with an Uncommon piece of gear, they will be under the Uncommon category like below:

This is important to know, because some of these things have bonuses like the one below, that you can achieve by crafting half of the required pieces.

As you can see, 3 of them are common gear that are craftable, and they give you one of the most crucial stats to build in PVP, basically for free.

It’s also worth noting that you can craft higher-level materials from low-level ones:

So dont be afraid to spend a little extra time gathering materials, because they do translate to your overall power.

Event Collections

Not much to say here, everytime there’s a new event, get them done ASAP, especially if they’re timed and give you important stats like Hunting EXP. Every kill matters.

Artifacts

This one is pretty straightforward, once you open them up, click each one, look at the requirements, follow them and upgrade them.

Just be careful of your Amber count since you’ll need them for your collection book crafting as well.

Important: World Boss

During specific times(depending on your region), there will be a red icon appearing on the top left of your screen that allows you to Teleport to the world boss LOKI.

As soon as you get in, make sure you go to the LOWEST CHANNEL available that isn’t full yet, and get the World Boss kill there.

After you are done killing the boss and getting your box, DO NOT LEAVE, click the change channel icon above your mini-map:

Then, move over to the next channel.

You can get the rewards multiple times. Keep moving up a channel until all the bosses are dead. This is the only place you can get Loki’s Broken Spear for your Collection Book, unless you want to buy it with Wemix. Regardless, you should boss hop anyway.

Save These Resources

Hall of Valkyrie Recharging Stones can be debatable, as long as you’re actually min-maxing them and manually grinding/gathering mobs. Maybe use them if you have a good spot where you have all 3 camps to yourself or with a party member. Another reason to use them early, especially if you’re F2P is to get to level 45 ASAP, so you can at least do the Viewpoint achievement for your Epic Air Companion.

Temple of Chaos and Folkvang however, I advise that you save. At level 50, dungeons start dropping Epic Gear. The chance might be pretty low, but a low chance is better than no chance. Anything lower than this point, wont have a chance to drop them.

Having extra time here would also mean that you can farm collection items longer and sell them for a much higher price to whales while the supply is still low.

You can also choose to save the feathers for Expeditions so you can spam the higher-level ones later on as well. The idea is to get as much value as possible.

AFK Tips

  • Make sure you always slot in AoE skills first.
  • Fast kills beats slow kills. Go for mobs you can 1-2 shot unless you’re after specific loot.
  • If not completely AFK and you’re just alt-tabbing, auto-progress your tasks.

Permanent Skill Bonuses

Certain skills, when leveled up, will provide additional permanent stats.

Example:

Poem of the Wind at level 8, gives permanent Monster Damage that applies regardless of the skill being used or not.
